The assembly took maybe twenty minutes and the material for this product is incredibly sturdy. He immediately took to the material of this and slept on the grey fabric while I assembled the main wood frame. My cat is 14lbs and 8.5 years old, and he's not a super energentic guy. I got this cat condo for a steal when it was on sale for roughly 70% off and I am so glad I had the opportunity to afford it. Absolutely do not buy at full price for this reason. It shreds into long thin strings, which make a mess and pose an ingestion hazard. They shredded the entire left side down to the bare cardboard in no time. They especially ADORE the sides for scratching, and that is the problem. They love the top for lounging and while they don’t hang out inside, they love it for playtime. It is heavy enough not to tip even when both cats launch full-speed. Our other cat trees have to be braced in corners and weighted down with bricks, but not this! This one is “The Throne”, placed in a prime room-surveying location. I have an average sized male cat that is fond of ricocheting around, and a huge athletic 17 lb monster. However, if you can get this on deep sale, it’s very worth it. I would have been furious if I paid the MSRP. As other reviews note, the fabric is “for show” only and does not hold up to cats at all. Long version: First, do not pay full price for this. The fabric is a disaster and you will need to re-cover with sisal. Short version: The construction is excellent and it will not tip over.
